Security

DJW Inc. would like to remind you to verify that your computer system is prepared for the potential dangers that face it. The issues outlined below should be carefully reviewed and addressed.

Having a Backup System that is working correctly is crucial.

Remember, DJW Inc. can not guarantee data recovery without proper backup; you can't restore what you never backed up...

  • Verify that your company is utilizing a backup system on a daily basis.
  • Verify that the backup system truly backs up the files you select.

Important information about backing up properly

Hard Drives don’t last forever.

The more you use your server's hard drive, the closer it is to the day that it will eventually fail. Hard drives can crash any time without warning.

  • Verify the age of your hard disk. If your hard drive is old, we suggest you consider replacing the drive.

Viruses in today’s networking environments are on the increase.

Viruses, trojans and worms are all forms of malicious data that can infect your systems. Many viruses stay on your system, opening the door for crackers and hackers to enter via the internet. Others will slow your computer to a crawl, infect other programs, destroy data, and even damage your hardware, forcing you to replace the server completely. In the last 6 months, DJW found and removed dozens viruses from client computers. Here are the most common ways by which you can get viruses:

  • Opening e-mail attachments that contain viruses.
  • Downloading or coping files that contain viruses.
  • Hackers breaking into your networking and leaving a virus behind.

To reduce the risk viruses corrupting your data or operating system:

  • Verify you have an anti-virus program that scans and cleans viruses.
  • Update the virus definitions for your anti-virus program every two (2) weeks.
  • Use your anti-virus program to scan all files that you download from emails and the internet.
